Private jet price: your questions

How much does a private jet cost?
New, from $3.25M for the least expensive very light jet to $340M for a converted airliner. A new light jet costs $5.6M to $11.9M, a new heavy jet $32.9M to $52.8M. Pre-owned, prices start at about $1.29M.
What is the cheapest private jet?
New, the Cirrus Vision Jet SF50 G2+, at about $3.25M. Pre-owned, our estimate for a 2017 Eclipse 550 runs from $1.29M to $1.44M. The cheapest to buy is rarely the cheapest to own: crew, hangar and maintenance do not fall with the price.
How much cheaper is a pre-owned private jet?
Our model has a business jet losing 5 to 10 per cent of its value in its first year, and keeping about 60 per cent of its new price at ten years with an engine programme in place. Hours, condition and maintenance history move a specific aircraft a long way.
How much does a private jet cost to run each year?
Before financing and depreciation, about $980,000 a year for a light jet flying 250 hours, and about $2,100,000 for a heavy jet. Crew is the largest fixed line, fuel and maintenance reserves the largest variable ones.
Is it better to buy a private jet or to charter?
For most private owners, at the two to four hundred hours a year they actually fly, charter costs less. Ownership wins on availability, control and privacy. Those advantages are real, but they are not financial arguments.
